Last week, SciTech had the pleasure of joining some of the Twin Cities’ largest employers in co-sponsoring the second annual summer kick-off Discover MSP, an internship event designed to recruit and retain college grads for Minnesota’s growing workforce.
Curated by Make It. MSP, the event took place at the US Bank Stadium and welcomed over 1,200 interns to an afternoon of networking, development sessions, games and activities. The evening was capped with a happy hour for graduate students in the Delta Sky 360 club.
Roughly 30 interns in attendance were there representing SciTech and the Minnesota High Tech Association. By placing more than 360 students in paid internships with small Minnesota companies this year, SciTech now has one of the largest internship programs in the state. We were thrilled to join some of Minnesota’s employment power houses including Target, U.S. Bank, General Mills and others in bringing our interns together for a chance to foster their professional network while highlighting all the Twin Cities has to offer.
There to represent the very best of Minneapolis and St. Paul were a variety of Minnesota promoters including the Minnesota UFC soccer team, the Minnesota State Fair and the Nice Ride bike sharing service.
Why go through all this effort? Because Make It. MSP and its event partners understand how important it is,
- To create spaces where interns are able to interact & forge connections with each other
- To establish a foundation for ongoing communication & connection amongst interns
- To showcase the various assets of the Minneapolis/St. Paul region
- To engage interns with the MSP business & civic community
The day was made by the numerous times out-of-state interns commented on how much they enjoyed Minnesota during their internships and were considering a move here for full-time work. From where we stood (at our booth on the stadium flied) Make It. MSP is making its mark.
