About AT3 Tactical:
AT3 Tactical is a manufacturer and online retailer of firearms parts and accessories, based in Hanover, Minnesota. The company was founded in 2013 by Zac Plansky, who started AT3 Tactical at home in his basement. The business has grown substantially since then, and now serves over 30,000 customers
AT3 added its first intern to its tight-knit team this past summer by hiring intern James Vogel through the SciTech Internship Program. SciTech, which connects STEM majors to paid internships in small Minnesota companies, helped AT3 cover half the intern’s wages through a wage match.
“I think internships are a great deal now.” Zac said, “We hadn’t had an intern before James. It’s been nice to have another person who looks at things from an engineering perspective on our team.”
Meet the intern:
James Vogel is a Mechanical Engineering major at Benedictine College in Kansas.
“I had no idea how the firearms industry worked before this experience. Now that I’m in it, it’s really interesting!” James said.
Throughout his internship, James had the opportunity to work on multiple projects including spearheading the implementation of a 3D Printer, 3D modeling, and cosmetic mounts and additions for AR-15s.
“One of my favorite things is taking their ideas and transforming them into actual products. The ones that I designed were my own ideas.”
“I really like the SciTech website. A site like this really gives students like me an opportunity to get cool internships.” James said. Looking to build your small business workforce? Get started today at SciTechMN.org.
