We are committed to protecting the privacy of the students and businesses that participate in the SciTech Internship Program. Since we collect certain types of information when you apply to SciTech, we believe that it is important to let you know what information is collected, how the collected information is used and protected.

In visiting our web site, we want you to know that you have control over your business and personal information. You can visit us on the web without telling us who you are or revealing any business and personal information whatsoever, including your email address.

We encourage you to take advantage of the SciTech Internship Program. When you use our online services, we can assure you that the personal information you provide us is managed with care.

 

INTRODUCTION

You are on the SciTech website: SciTechMN.org, which is owned and operated by the SciTech Internship Program at the Minnesota Technology Association (MnTech). MnTech is committed to maintaining the privacy of personal information of the people who use (“you” or “user”) of its web applications (“Site”).

Since we collect certain types of information about our users, we want you to understand the terms and conditions surrounding the capture and use of that information. This privacy statement discloses what information we collect, how we use it, and how to correct and change it. MnTech will provide a link to this privacy policy on all pages that ask for your personal information.

 

Employers

Employers may use the SciTechMN.org site to post internship employment opportunities on the application and search student profiles posted on SciTechMN if the employer is approved to participate in the SciTech Internship Program.

Employers posting jobs through the system are required to comply with all applicable equal employment opportunity laws, as expressed by the U.S. Justice Department (DOJ), including the anti-discrimination provision of the Immigration and Naturalization Act.

The Immigration and Nationality Act prohibits citizenship status and national origin discrimination with respect to hiring, termination, and recruiting or referring for a fee.8 U.S.C. § 1324b (a) (1) (B).

Employers may not treat individuals differently because they are, or are not, U.S. citizens or work authorized individuals. U.S. citizens, asylumees, refugees, recent permanent residents and temporary residents are protected from citizenship status discrimination. Employers may not reject valid employment eligibility documents or require more or different documents on the basis of a person’s national origin or citizenship status.

 

Students

Students use the SciTechMN system to enroll, post-employment profiles, and review internship job opportunities. By entering data into the SciTechMN system, students may have data included in aggregate reports to state agencies, in reports developed for institutional studies, etc.

It is important for students to contact SciTech/MnTech if they have any concerns regarding the use of their information. Students have the ability to view, correct or change their information.

Employers using SciTechMN system will have access to student profiles for recruiting, interviewing, and hiring purposes after they’ve been approved to enroll in the SciTech Internship Program.

Employers will have access to limited personal information from student profiles—name, school attending, city/state, year in school, e-mail address, major, type of degree, phone, and expected graduation date. Employers will be able to view a student’s personal interest statement, resume, special skills, and software skills. Grade Point Averages (GPA) and demographic information is never shared with employers.

If you have questions regarding the privacy practices and policies of employers with respect to personal information, we recommend contacting the employer directly.

 

USE OF PERSONALLY IDENTIFIABLE INFORMATION

For Students

  • Access and use of various tools, features, and functionality of the system, such as conducting internship employment searches. Personal identifiable information is collected to build your student profile and for use in aggregate reporting to the State of Minnesota.

For Employers

  • Access and use of various tools, features, and functionality of the system, such as posting jobs and reviewing student profiles and for use in aggregate reporting to the State of Minnesota.

For All Users

  • To communicate regarding use of the SciTech website, SciTechMN.org, and its services or to advise of the system or Site changes or other events or occurrences that may affect access to or use of the site.
  • To provide customer and technical services upon request by the user.

 

From time to time, SciTech may also disclose personally identifiable information to fulfill certain legal and regulatory requirements or if we believe, in good faith, that such disclosure is legally required or necessary to protect others’ rights or to prevent or mitigate harm.

 

UPDATING ACCOUNT INFORMATION

SciTechMN.org allows you to change or correct your personal or company information at any time. To do so, simply log in to your account, go to your profile, and you will find options for editing the information you have submitted.

 

INTERNET PROTOCOL (IP) ADDRESSES AND AGGREGATED USER DATA

When you enter the SciTechMN site, our servers log your IP address. This is done to monitor our users on the Site collectively. We only use such data anonymously and in the aggregate. We do not use IP addresses to identify information of individual users.

 

CHILDREN

SciTech/MnTECH does not knowingly collect or solicit personally identifiable information from or about children under 18.

 

SECURITY

When users submit personally identifiable information via the web site, the information is protected both online and off-line. All of our user’s information is restricted to only the SciTech/MnTech employees who need the information to perform a specific job (for example, our business manager to reimburse a company with a matching stipend or a SciTech program administrator) are granted access to personally identifiable information.

In addition, the student and employer data is password protected, so only you (or third parties you provide your SciTechMN.org password to) can access this information. All personally identifiable information SciTechMN.org collects about you is stored in limited-access servers. SciTechMN.org has technical, administrative, and physical security measures and safeguards in place to protect against the loss, misuse, and alteration of the information under SciTech/MnTech’s control. This site uses
secure servers to protect from loss, misuse, and alteration of the information under our control. SciTech will never ask for your Social Security number and recommends that you do not share it with an employer unless it is needed to perform a background check as part of an offer of employment.

 

PRIVACY POLICY CHANGES

SciTech/MnTech may deem it necessary or appropriate from time to time to modify this privacy policy to reflect changes in the way SciTech/MnTech collects or uses information or changes in privacy-related laws, regulations, or industry standards. Accordingly, SciTech/MnTech reserves the right to change this privacy statement at any time by posting the revised policy on this Site. Information will be handled according to the privacy statement in effect at the time the information is used. We encourage you to review the web site and these terms periodically for any updates or changes. Your continued access or use of this web site shall be deemed your acceptance of this privacy policy.
